LAMINATE

Laminate flooring offers a beautiful timber look with exceptional performance, able to withstand the daily wear and tear from kids, pets and spills. They are easy to maintain and repair, easy to install and great value for money. Laminate floors are 'floated' over sub-floors and are available in a wide range of colours and styles.

Laminate floors are separated by four grade international standards to rate their durability (AC1, AC2, AC3 & AC4).

Laminate flooring is made up of a core of dense fibreboard, and a top layer on which a photographed pattern is pressure sealed by a coating of plastic-like aluminium oxide. When you walk on a laminate floor that appears to be made of real wood, you are actually walking on a very realistic photograph. This sealed photographic, or décor layer, makes the laminate floor surface very durable and resistant to damage from high foot traffic, household pets, and light moisture. Although very durable, this surface can be scratched or marked and should therefore not be considered scratch proof. Higher gloss or smooth surface laminates are more prone to showing marks and scratches than textured low sheen surfaces. Although Laminate flooring is protected from moisture that may land on the top surface, water spills or other moisture should be mopped up promptly and not allowed to sit on the floor.

Laminate flooring is extremely versatile and can be installed on nearly every type of sub-floor, ranging from concrete, to a new wood sub-floor, to an existing vinyl or ceramic sub-floor, as long as the sub-floor is level, clean, and dry. Laminate flooring can be installed with confidence in nearly any part of a home or office, with the exception of areas prone to extreme dampness or excessive moisture, such as bathrooms or laundry rooms.

It is important that underlays that are thicker and/or softer are not used under any floating floor product. Those “underlays” that would most often be used as packing foam, when used as an underlay, can create one or more of a number of problems, including but not limited to noisy floors or serious issues with trims and terminations.

ENGINEERED FLOATING TIMBER FLOOR

Engineered/Floating floors are a pre-finished, timber veneer on a plywood base and laid over an underlay. Most have a veneer of around 3-4mm thick which is re-sandable. Engineered floors can usually be installed as a fixed floor over concrete or plywood as long as the surface is flat and dry.

They are highly engineered and designed to be installed quickly.

Engineered flooring is composed of multiple layers of veneered timber glued together in a cross-grained lamination that is designed to counteract the natural tendency of wood to expand and contract when faced with changes in temperature and moisture. Firstly, a layer of moisture barrier is laid on the ground, followed by a layer of underlay, then timber. It is most commonly used for apartments or units, where floors are situated on a higher level. Each layer of veneered timber acts as a sound barrier, thus minimizing noise and disturbances.

It is important that underlays that are thicker and/or softer are not used under any floating floor product. Those “underlays” that would most often be used as packing foam, when used as an underlay, can create one or more of a number of problems, including but not limited to noisy floors or serious issues with trims and terminations.

PRE-FINISHED HARDWOOD

Pre-finished hardwood provides a great alternative to the traditional timber flooring. The advantage that pre-finished hardwood has over unfinished hardwood is that it offers a much cleaner, clearer finish than a floor finished in your home. Because the wood is finished in carefully controlled factory conditions, it does not have the dust, dirt and other particles that are visible in almost any floor that's finished on site. This in effect will lower the cost of labour.

GRADE

SELECT
For a clean modern appearance only obtained by selecting the boards with a limited variation in natural characteristics, whilst exposing the rich colours, tones and textures that distinguishes the grain patterns of the timber. This grade limits the inclusion of many conspicuous natural features.

STANDARD
Distinguished by the natural features such as gum veins, insect markings and knots, the standard grade gives timber floors a unique character that is individual to each installation. The colour, tone and texture of the timber may vary slightly.
